Good fiction.  Of all types: as in historical, plain, sci-fi, fantasy.  You know, fiction. Mainly authors listed, occasionally a book or series specified.

Paul Doherty – historical fiction, murder mystery historical fiction, great historian

Terry Pratchett – fantasy, largely known for his Discworld series, though you don’t have to read them in order

Sharon Kay Penman – again, historical murder mysteries, good historical fiction especially for the period of Henry II and Eleanor of Aquitaine

L. E. Modesitt – fantasy and sci-fi, very well developed characters, especially recommend The Parafaith War

Schami, Rafik. (1993) Damascus Nights. Farrar, Straus, and Giroux: New York.

Atwood, Margaret. (1986) The Handmaid’s Tale.
